Gourmet Gobblers Hosts New Year's "Smoker"
Contributed by: Pat Fujisaki Sauter on 12/20/2006

When new business owner Jason Mack hears the word "smoker", visions of his special marinated turkeys not fine cigars dance through his head. His business, Gourmet Gobblers, has moved from a small meat smoker which was built 12 years ago behind the family house in Montrose to a new facility at the 100-year-old Denargo Marketplace Quarter in north Denver.
"Things have been crazy", says Jason. "Once customers taste this bird, they come back and order two more." Customers such as Reverend Dr. Lou Angone have jokingly told people, "When you start slicing up the Gourmet Gobbler around the dinner table, your family will turn into ravenous dogs as the turkey bones start flying!"
Each 12-14 pound turkey is marinated in the "Mack Secret Sauce", a family recipe from Jason's uncle, for 36 hours and then hung in fruitwood smokers for 6 hours. The process produces what Gourmet Gobblers fans rave "is the juiciest turkey that you'll ever taste." Adding the high protein and low carb health benefits of turkey, it is quickly becoming a tasty counterpart for the traditional chicken dinner.
Jason's wife, Camille Mack, utilizes the leftovers by making homemade turkey soup for her "Bus Stop Ministry" program which provides both physical and spiritual nourishment for over 100 homeless people in the Denver area. Founded by Camille 12 years ago, the program has placed 30 of its participants in level-entry jobs at several Denver businesses.
With Christmas orders being fulfilled, Jason is focusing on his "Super Push" by taking orders for New Year's Eve parties, play-off gatherings and Bowl games. "I have grown from a small business taking special orders to a company that now ships to six states. With the online capability of placing orders instead of 'word-of-mouth' referrals," he says with a wink, "I have fulfilled my dream of turning this into a full-time business". Online orders can be placed at www.gourmetgobblers.com. or by calling: 303-762-8279.
With its expanded facility, Gourmet Gobblers becomes one of Colorado's newest locally owned and food manufacturing businesses, using family recipes and traditional techniques to give another meaning to a gentlemen's "smoker".
