The Douglas County Cultural Council and Douglas County Libraries have been working collaboratively to offer a Web site to Douglas County citizens and those outside of the County interested in learning about arts and cultural activities, programs, events, workshops, etc. that are going on throughout the County.
Organizations offering activities of this nature that are free or low cost to citizens and that take place within Douglas County can submit their information online at
www.douglascountylibraries.org/com_calendar
.
"The Douglas County Cultural Plan has several goals that the Council works to achieve," said
Kathy Spuhler
, chair of the Douglas County Cultural Council. "One of those goals is to provide an array of support services to, and nurture partnerships among, artist and organizations, which I think this calendar does. Another is to promote cultural tourism in Douglas County and to reach a variety of audiences with information on arts and cultural events, which this calendar also does."
Douglas County currently has a population of approximately 266,739 residents. According to Douglas County's 2006 Citizen Opinion Poll conducted by Hill Research Consultants, 88 percent of Douglas County poll respondents have Internet access. Also, 38 percent of poll respondents would like to see more choices of arts activities and events in Douglas County.
"This calendar is a great resource, whether for residents, civic organizations, or other arts and culture groups that want to see what others are doing," said
Katie Klossner
, community relations manager for Douglas County Libraries.
This calendar is an opportunity to expand the arts and cultural activities that are available in Douglas County.
