Castle Pines Kiwanis make changes to structure

The Kiwanis Club of Castle Pines voted this week to make major changes in the way the club is structured and the frequency of its meetings. The new structure will emphasize "Service and Social" goals, and will give members the option to meet less frequently and to be more "hands-on" in their service to the community.
The Castle Pines club is part of Kiwanis International, the world's largest service organization. The motto of Kiwanis is "Serving the Children of the World."
Kiwanis International, recognizing a desire among young professionals and community leaders to be more involved with projects which directly affect and benefit children, has recently changed its rules to allow clubs more freedom to structure meetings that meet the local members' needs.
The Castle Pines Kiwanis Club will now meet each second and fourth Tuesday for lunch at La Dolce Vita restaurant. Previously the club met weekly, which some members found to be difficult. Club meetings will now be centered on planning service projects, as well as providing for social and networking opportunities. The club plans to hold at least one social event each month in addition to the regular meetings.
"This structure will make it possible for anyone to be a Kiwanis member", said
Daniel Cook
, current club president. "Whether a member attends every meeting, or attends infrequently, but helps with the community projects, there is room for all who want to be involved in projects that benefit kids".
Key Club is the high school affiliate of Kiwanis, open to all high school students. The local Kiwanis club supports Key Clubs at Rock Canyon and Mountain Vista High Schools, and is in the process of forming a club at Castle View High School. The Castle Pines club also supports the Second Wind Program.
An information night for prospective members will be held Aug. 5 at Jimmy's Steakhouse, 880 Happy Canyon Road, Suite 150 in Castle Pines Village. If interested, call
Janet Moore
at 303-790-4413 or online at www.cpkiwanis.org.
