The Castle Pines North Metro District hosted an introductory session on Feb. 28 with the newly elected City Council of Castle Pines North. The purpose of the meeting was to update Council Members on the District's considerable progress with renewable water initiatives.
General Manager
Jim McGrady
distributed maps depicting the various infrastructure components that comprise the renewable water plan. These components include:
a) Plum Creek water rights, and other water rights investigations.
b) Chatfield Reservoir and Rueter-Hess Reservoir storage.
c) Interconnection pipeline that runs from Highlands Ranch through Castle Pines North to Castle Rock, east-west along C-470, and north-south from the East Cherry Creek Valley water storage tanks at Smoky Hill Road and E-470.
Council members were very impressed with the exemplary job the Metro District has done in putting together these renewable water plans for Castle Pines North.
Metro District Finance Manager
Dan Schmick
walked City Council members through the financial plan to pay for this renewable water solution. Existing debt will be paid down over and above the minimum amounts that are due.
This will enhance the Metro District's credit rating when new bonds are issued to pay for the renewable water plan. Better credit ratings mean lower taxes and fees for residents. It is hoped that rate and fee increases will be minimized over the next 10 years.
The Castle Pines North Metro District is a special district that was established in 1984. The Metro District provides water, wastewater and storm water services, and oversees the District-owned parks, trails and open spaces within the community.
The Metro District currently serves the Castle Pines North population of nearly 10,000, and has more than 3,200 residential and business customers for water and service. More information is available on www.cpnmd.org, or by phone at 303-688-8550.
