The Rock Canyon High School Varsity Poms team in its first year competing in the 4A division has had an outstanding year.

The squad placed 2nd at the Continental League Competition held at Gateway High School on November 15th ahead of several local powerhouse 5A teams including Mountain Vista H.S., Arapahoe H.S. and Chaparral H.S.

At the Dec. 2nd CHSSA State Championship held at the Denver Coliseum, the RCHS Varsity Poms team placed 3rd in the 4A division in a field of about 20 competitors.

At the CU Spirit Challenge Competition held at Coors Event Center on January 27th, the team placed 1st in the Varsity Jazz category and took 2nd place in the Varsity Pom competition. The squad was crowned Dance Grand Champions for having the highest overall dance score of the day for the Jazz dance.

The team also competed at the Universal Dance Association National Dance Team Championships held at Disney World in Orlando, FL, February 2-4, 2007. The team qualified during their dance team camp in July by receiving a "Superior Dance Team" award given only to the teams who show exceptional ability, work ethic, spirit, and teamwork.

This is the first year that the Rock Canyon Varsity Poms team has received this award.
