The Knolls Tsunami Swim Team broke 20 swimming records this summer and finished in second place in the B Division of the Rocky Mountain Swim League. The team won the C Division championship at the 2007 RMSL finals, and were expected to struggle in the tougher B Division against teams with three times as many swimmers.
Even though the Knolls were the underdogs of B Division, the extra competition led to many new records.
One very special record now belongs to
Colton Barry
, a just-turned 7 year old who broke the University of Georgia swimmer
Mark Dylla
's 8 & under 25 backstroke league record. With Dylla taking 8th place at this year's Olympic Trials, Colton's record is really great and shows his potential for next year's season.
Another impressive feat came from the 15-18 girls
Meg Perron
and
Kylie Youmans
who broke 6 of 7 possible individual team records and tying another.
More individual and relay record breaking swims came from
Adam Bakke
,
Mick Bartholomew
,
Sabrina Brakeman
,
Jack Braunreiter
,
Owen Collins
,
Xander Collins
,
Emily Fahlsteadt
,
Chase Green
,
Bayley Krell
,
Raeann Langas
,
Jenny LeBlang
,
Katie Perron
,
Taryn Pilkington
,
Baergan Schultz
and
Graham Schultz
. Not only did these kids break some records that were almost 22 years old, but broke some of their teammates records from previous years.
"Everyone wants to beat the records that the older kids have set, which makes the competition more of a fun rivalry than just a race. It makes them all go so much faster," swim parent
Joan Youmans
said.
The Tsunami season was a giant, suprising success overall, and they have high hopes for next year based on the amazing 2008 season.
