I'm turning 50, not old

I'm turning the big five-o on October 20th. Funny thing is, now that I'm here it doesn't feel so old.
Admittedly, I'm experiencing many of the physical changes that one can expect when they turn 50. My hair is turning gray. I'm getting wrinkles on my face and hands. My vision is going. My upper arms flap in the wind more. My eyebrows seem to be growing at an alarming rate. I can't run as fast or pick up heavy objects like I used to. My joints creak a little more and I move a bit slower, but overall, I would say that I'm aging as well as anyone.
The odd thing about aging is that while your body is giving into old age, your brain is still in high school. The old adage, "you're as young as you feel", rings true.
In the fifty years I have been alive, there are several things that have remained constant in my life. Somethings you don't have to grow out of.
I still like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. I've been eating it since I was a kid. It's cheap, fast and easy to make. It's the best meal out there under a dollar. It's good for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a late night snack. My kids were raised with it also. It's a legacy I have passed down to them.
I still like the Beach Boys. I don't care if people think their square. There's nothing better than cranking up the radio while you're driving down the road listening to Fun, Fun, Fun or Help Me Rhonda. It's the kind of music that transports you back to a simpler time. A time when music was about fun times, lost loves and fast cars. The coolest part is that you can understand the words and dance to it also.
I still like Gilligan's Island, The Munsters, The Addams Family and Green Acres. Yeah, the humor was sophomoric, but it was funny. I never get tired of Gilligan's antics, Herman's booming laugh, Gomez's fencing matches or Lisa's dingbat behavior. There was no violence, cussing or deviant sexual behavior. The whole purpose of the show was to entertain you, not to shock you. Maybe that's why these shows are still in syndication after all these years.
Turning fifty is not as devastating as I thought it would be. I don't feel any burning desire to shop for a plastic surgeon or give myself a complete makeover. I don't scream at my reflection in a mirror or feel faint when I get on a scale. The best part about being fifty is not what's in the mirror. It's what's in your head.
