Blog Entry 38 of 124 Buzz by Barbara
I think about a lot of things. I have opinions about most. What good are thoughts and opinions when not shared? I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours. Issues related to education really get me going. I love to dine on the hot potatoes of school accountability, standardized testing, corporal punishment in schools (outlawed in only about 28 states), scrutiny of school staff before hiring, teacher performance standards, and the weeding out of bad apples in education. I promote fitness as the miracle drug most of us seek. No pill will duplicate the health benefits of working our bodies. I strongly support the adage, "Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die." The world does not need more puppies or kittens. A visit to a local shelter is proof. I consider myself schooled in basic personal money management, the entrepreneurial spirit, domestic adoption, motherood in middle age, Baby Boomer issues, Southern culture, and how to cook a meal in twenty minutes. Whew. So, where shall we start?

Phat bumper stickers
Contributed by: Barbara Neff   on 10/10/2006

Generally speaking, I do not like bumper stickers. I mean, they are fine on other people's vehicles but I would almost never put one on mine. I say "almost never" because I have so far made one lifetime exception. When I was working for the old Frontier Airlines (the one that went bankrupt in 1986) and the company was floundering, I did affix a sticker on my bumper that read: Support your hometown airline. Fly Frontier. It seemed at the time in my best job preservation interest. Apparently my sticker didn't help.

Aside from the Frontier Airlines bumper sticker two decades ago, I'd have to say I don't anticipate feeling so strongly about something I'll plaster the sentiment on my car again. Though not a bumper sticker displayer, I am an avid bumper sticker reader.

Most of the time I wonder why a person would mar the appearance of a perfectly good vehicle with a splashy sticker on the bumper. But, today, I wanted to chase down a driver displaying one and yell, "Right on!"

Here is what I saw on the bumper of a car this morning:

The world will be a better place when schools have all the money they need and the military has to hold a bake sale to pay for a new fighter plane.

That's a lot to fit on one sticker and readers have to be close to the back of the vehicle bearing it to read it. I happened behind this particular vehicle at a stoplight. But, what a sentiment!

I recall many funny bumper stickers over the years. Most were off color, politically incorrect or too sexually suggestive to share on this forum

I don't understand the the bumper sticker phenomenon, but these are some of my favorites-- "I'm Pro Get-a-Life," "Visualize Using Your Turn Signal," "What if the Hokie Pokie is What It's All About?" and this one, just prior to the last presidential election -- "Abstenance 2004, No Bush, No Dick." Also, I liked this bumper sticker best, because it truly lifted my mind and spirit -- "I Love My Wife."

These are hilarious! OK. My favorites from recent years: "Imagine whirled peas" and here in Colorado "Not native. Got here fast as I could."

I've always been partial to the upside down bumper sticker on 4x4's that reads "If You Can Read This, Please Turn Me Over" Also: "Jesus Is Coming, Look Busy".

my very favorites include the following: "I'm sorry but my karma just ran over your dogma." "yes, I'm fat, but you're ugly and I can diet."

I got one. There was a car in front of me going up the parking garage the other day. I normally hate driving in the parking garage, but I laughed uncontrollably to this: What would Scooby do?

I took my granddaughter shopping to buy a gift for her mother. The only thing she would consider was a bumper sticker that said " If you are rich, I am single".Her mother is happily married to my son!We bought the bumper sticker but I have not seen it on her car!

"War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength." from George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. My friend has this bumper sticker on his truck and I think it pretty much sums up how backward things in this world can be.

I recently saw a bumber sticker on the back of an RV that read "Zero to 60 in 8 minutes." I thought it was pretty hilarious.
