Blog Entry 15 of 102 A Journalist's Musings
As a journalist, I don't often have the opportunity to share my opinion. So I thought I'd come over here and share my point of view on matters affecting our community and the state. I'm not afraid to take a stand, and I welcome the conversation that will follow if you tell me your point of view!

New day care facility/preschool to open in town
Contributed by: Hank Lacey   on 6/13/2007

The Town Council approved a permit for use by special review for the Goddard School, a day care facility that offers a unique educational curriculum on a nationwide basis. The new center will be built in the Metzler Ranch area of Castle Rock.

I was concerned about the architect's failure to include shade trees near the two playgrounds, both of which are south-facing, because I thought the intense sun would deter children from playing in those enclosed outside areas.

But apparently the operators are concerned about toddlers sampling falling leaves and think the roofs on the play structures and a separate, small area within the playground shaded with some sort of canopy will keep them from cooking too much in the summer heat.

I voted for the permit, as did four of my colleagues.
