Rampart Mick's Idle Thoughts
Really, that's all my writing is. I appreciate your input / feedback and I encourage each of you to try writing and submitting yourself! The worst that can happen (we hope) is you will be called asinine and an idiot, or clueless, and if I can get over THAT, surely you can too.

OK, let's get this straight. My wife screws around, she gets pregnant. I am legally responsible for that child. Especially if I start liking the kid. Heaven help me and my wallet if I just happen to like kids. Or marry the wrong woman.
Maybe it is time to change the law. It is outdated by the fact that I, as a drawn in part in this whole sordid scenario, now have the ability, and the right, to contest my biological parenthood.
Why should I, having thus proven this child is not mine, have to spend the next 20+ years paying support because some other man took a joy ride on my (now ex-)wife?? Because I married her cheatin' heart? And she got knocked up before the divorce came through? And this has nothing to do with non-biological parents bonding with their adopted children. And nothing to do with parents not being able to agree on what is best for their children. Or anything to do with placing adult's interests ahead of the child's. Those are totally different issues.
Why does society continue to want to punish, economically, the one person (other than the child) in this whole scenario that can now be proven, without a doubt, innocent and without fault? Not to mention that maybe this guy, having bonded with the kid, now has to deal with the fact said kid is not even his?
Where does the responsibility of the mother, who is now proven to be promiscuous, if not an outright liar, come into this? And not just responsible, but accountable. Whose fault is this, anyway??
Let me guess.
The mom is guilty of nothing, and as a matter of fact should be given money by the non-biological father because she happened to be married to him when she was sleeping around. Maybe because he spent too much time at the office, who knows. Because anything different would not be fair to the child.
Get friggin" real.
Maybe that could fly once, maybe that still flies in too many instances. It needs to change wherever it does, in my humble opinion.
The argument that in order to stay involved with a child I would have to continue paying for the right, would be laughable if it wasn't so sad.
Barbara
, maybe we need to agree to disagree on this one. What I hope is going to start happening is women are going to have to be more responsible on who fathers their children, and about time on that. After further consideration, I would push an additional item onto the bill, stating the mother, if found to have been deceptive on the fathering of the child, be open to charges of contempt of court.
Enough said by me, let's open this up for discussion.

Yes, Mick, it's good to agree to disagree. The best interests of children are not served by allowing men legally their fathers to abdicate financial responsibility but retain parental rights, in my opinion. I think family court judges would agree. The parent with financial responsibilty is sure to have parental rights. Let's see what happens to SB56.
