Blog Entry 18 of 102 A Journalist's Musings
As a journalist, I don't often have the opportunity to share my opinion. So I thought I'd come over here and share my point of view on matters affecting our community and the state. I'm not afraid to take a stand, and I welcome the conversation that will follow if you tell me your point of view!

Soft surface trails coming to Castle Rock
Contributed by: Hank Lacey   on 6/13/2007

The Town Council signed off Tuesday on a proposal to give the Parks & Recreation Department more latitude to build soft-surface trails in town.

These trails, which are useful for mountain bikers, horse enthusiasts, and people who enjoy hiking in a more rustic setting, will likely be used to allow access to new open space areas.

Right now, Town policy almost always requires construction of eight-foot wide concrete pathways, which are impractical in many open space areas and which, during construction, can cause significant environmental harm.

Please share your thoughts about areas planned for new trail construction that seem suitable for soft-surface trails with the Parks& Recreation Commission, Town Manager Mark Stevens' office, or your representative on the Town Council.

The Council's action Tuesday evening promises many new and interesting recreational opportunities for the people of Castle Rock and I enthusiastically supported the proposal.
