Conscious Evolution and the World Around You.
This blog will discuss the idea of conscious evolution and how world events may impact that personal or global process. It will also discuss clashing cultural aspects and what we can do to see past our differences and work towards acceptance of our fellow human beings.

It is interesting to notice that in the past decade the number of psychiatric drugs, and cases of use has gone up. Obviously there is a money element in the pharmaceutical companies, but does anyone think that maybe there are some other things going on?
Consider this every culture has it's psychological norms. In some cultures a person who hears voices would not be a scitzofrenic, but a shaman. This is obviously one example of many, but it is important to remember the nature of psychology is in fact a cultural one. Not every culture has understandings or concepts for psychology, nor does every culture need it.
Part of what I want to put forth here is that every culture has it's norms. Why do you think that this idea of normal has shrunken so much that everyone seems to be depressed or bipolar and needs medication. Are we perhaps overanalyzing our own mental states? Is it all about the greed of corporate American? Do we have more to be neurotic about?
My personal view is perhaps it is all of the above. Our culture is paradoxical in that we all want to be strong individuals, but many of us also want someone to give us direction. This is why people like Oprah, Dr. Phil and others are so popular. I think perhaps we forget that it is ok to be emotional sometimes and that stress happens. Perhaps we have forgotten to leave our stress at work. The economy itself gives us something to be a bit more neurotic about. Things keep going up in price but our wallets don't get any larger. Or perhaps it is that we spend to much on gadgets like the I Phone or Cell Phones in general. Maybe we are also a bit lost on our spiritual beliefs as well. I just read an article not 5 minute ago that say 25% of Americans are switching religions, and that doesn't even include moving from one Christian Denomination to the next.
Maybe it is about greed as well. Seems to me there are some greedy individuals in this country who love to make money off of people who really don't have it.
My whole point is that before you go see a shrink try and understand what you are feeling. Might I recommend meditation personally it has made a huge difference in my life. It is ok to be sad or angry, it is part of the human experience. All of our emotions are there to give us a contrast so that we may better understand what it is to be human.
If you can share your thoughts on this subject if you don't want to put them in a public place feel free to email me. I am doing some research on this subject and would love to have some insight.

I agree with Mick in that you can typically "follow the money" when trying to understand trends. I also feel strongly expectations of children have changed, especially boys, and children's behaviors have changed due to chemical exposure (primarily by way of diet)and screen exposure (computer screens, TV and electronic games). When expectations for cookie cutter behavior go up and tendencies toward hyperactivity go up at the same time, the quick fix is too often drugs.

Do you think there is perhaps a fear of being abnormal in this culture? So much so that people believe we have to be medicated?

We are certainly a medicated society. I think a huge part of what drives the problem is the hunt for the dollar. It crosses into greed quite often, but most people are just trying to get by. In a heavily capitalistic society like ours, what else are you going to do?
