Blog Entry 1 of 22 Changing My Thinking
I know how to eat healthy, but often make unhealthy choices. And, exercise... what's that? I sporatically exercise and make attempts at eating healthy. That's better than nothing, right? It's a beginning.

Making the decision
Contributed by: Julie Robinson   on 4/4/2006

Decision made. I will stop eating for any other reason except hunger. So, that's the plan. I began yesterday, April 2, 2006. The day after April Fools so I can't ever say, "Just fooling". I made the decision at church when the pastor said for us to pick just one thing from The Proverbs "The wisdom literature" we have been reading and studying for the past two months. He said something about us still being in diapers if we are not putting principles we have learned into practice. And, so I remembered the book I read years ago called The Weigh Down Workshop by Gwen Shamblin where I learned how to eat and followed it just on the faith that it would actually work. Some people called it the prayer diet and she was on the morning talk shows and there was a buzz about it. So often, whenI learn something new and practice it for awhile, it will be habit. So often as well, my habits change or bad habits begin sneaking back in.

When I came home from church yesterday I had already made the decision to eat well which means to me to eat only when I am hungry. I was really hungry because I had skipped breakfast in too much of a hurry and didn't want to eat those greasy doughnuts - the grease and sugar not good for my singing voice. There was my wonderful husband who had not onlystayed homewith our sick 3 year old but also had cooked a wonderful crockpot spicy stew with homemade bread in the bread maker. The aroma.

So, I was hungry and ate just enough to fill the hunger. I ate the best parts of the meat and potatoes and some of the bread with butter. That felt really good. I was pleasingly full and we ate it out in our backyard in the sunshine.

When I followed this "diet" several years ago, I remember that it was a few days before I found regular hunger signals that were exactly fitting with breakfast, lunch, and dinner times. I wasn't hungry for dinner last night, soI didn't eat. I had a hot cup of tea. This morning I am just starting to get hungry at 10:00. I get to eat whatever I want and am hungry for a fruit smoothie or oatmeal. Or maybe oatmeal with fruit. That's it. I won't eat the whole thing, I will just eat a little to take care of the hunger.
