Healthy Eating
Blog Entry 8 of 22
Changing My Thinking
I know how to eat healthy, but often make unhealthy choices. And, exercise... what's that? I sporatically exercise and make attempts at eating healthy. That's better than nothing, right? It's a beginning.

My favorite website is
www.wikipedia.com
. It is sometimes my first place to go when exploring a concept. When I was thinking about how I've been on the eat to hunger program for one week today, I decided to look into how long it takes to make something you want to change a habit. And, I was surprised that when clicking on the word "habit" in Wikipedia, that I found the following definition for learning:
Learning
is the
process
of acquiring
knowledge
,
skills
,
attitudes
, or
values
, through
study
,
experience
, or
teaching
, that causes a change of behavior that is persistent, measurable, and specified or allows an individual to formulate a new
mental
construct
or revise a prior mental construct (conceptual knowledge such as attitudes or values). It is a process that depends on experience and leads to long-term changes in
behavior
potential. Behavior potential describes the possible behavior of an individual (not actual behavior) in a given situation in order to achieve a goal. But potential is not enough; if individual learning is not periodically reinforced, it becomes shallower and shallower, and eventually is lost in that individual.
There are many other habits that I would like to acquire. In the past, I have tried doing them all at once: like, dieting and exercising together. I have never succeeded at both at the same time. What I do know is that when I weigh less, I find moving feels better. And, it has to be one thing at a time for me.
So, I have been successful for one week. I hope that I will be forming the new mental construct mentioned above in the wikipedia definition. I also hope to inspire YOU.
