How many people does it take to change a light?
Contributed by: Sandy Clifton   on 6/1/2008

As some of you may know me I have recently (few months back) moved in to my first ever home. As with most first time home owners there is a need, an almost overwhelming need to fix your place up.

Our townhome was built in 2001 and even though it was a foreclosure it was in perfect condition..

Ok almost perfect condition.

Back in the day I used to work at Home Depot and I would think to myself, "Why are all these people walking around like kids in a candy store?" "It is just a hardware store." Little did I know that I would one day be one of those wide eyed shoppers. I now walk into Lowes or Home Depot with an eager look on my face that the next passerby can only mistake as awe. I want to check out every isle and dream about the possibilities in my new home.

A few weeks back we went on a trip to one of these stores thinking about buying lawn furniture. Little did we know that if you want some chairs outside you can easily spend a grand or more on outdoor furniture. Why the heck would anyone spend that much money on outdoor furniture?! I mean is it made of gold? Wait, it must be covered in chocolate... no? Well, why is it that outdoor furniture is SO freakishly outrageously expensive?

As you may have now guessed we still do not have any outdoor furniture. Even though I would LOVE to have a really nice soft comfortable outdoor set I would rather sit on the stone ground then blow a grand that could be used fixing the inside and have a less chance of being stolen. However I would take a donation. HA Ok back to the subject.

Yesterday we went to Home Depot in search for that perfect chandelier or replacement light fixtures that we desperately need. Instead we walk out of there with a new kitchen light. Our old kitchen light was one of those see through generic rectangle light boxes. We get home eager to install our new light even though we have never attempted a home project this big. The first thing we do is turn off the electricity and that is a no brainer. I was very proud of my husband and we did get it installed about an hour to an hour and half later.

Usually when my husband has a project to do and it involves putting something together that COMES with instructions... he doesn't do to well the first half hour. Why you may ask well, because first he doesn't ever read the instructions. He always thinks that he can whip it out of the box and have it ready to go in no time. HA, that is never the case. Most of the time he gets frustrated and instead of taking a step back he grabs whatever he is trying to work on and yanks or strangles it. HA.

Well yesterday he almost had a few of those episodes and when I started to see the ever so slightly signs of curse words and aggravated hand gestures I knew I had to take action. Taking action is basically telling him that he needs to calm down. "You know before you tear out the wires, or before you make that whole in our ceiling a fist size!" Who am I kidding, I usually yell "CALM DOWN FOOL before you break something".

Yes, this has happened where he has broken the object we are fixing. It is kind of surprising too because if you have ever met my husband he is so not the raging sort. He is SO quiet and reserved when it comes to new people. He has actually told me that he hates meeting new people. Me, I love meeting new people, why you may ask... well, because you never know if that new person you meet might one day be your new best friend. I know this blog is all over the place... it is more like random thoughts thrown down. ... Kind of like one of those mix bags where you get a little of everything but hey, at least you get a peek in my head right.
