Review: Rhyolite Regional Park
Contributed by: - inColoradoNOW!   on 6/26/2008

Castle Rock's newest park, Rhyolite Regional Park is a true gem, from its massive playground gym set to its Rubber synthetic grass ball fields, this is a park done right! The Rhyolite rocks on display show a very attractive pinkish purple exhibit of our local history.

We had a chance to visit the park in Crystal Valley Ranch for my son's T-Ball Baseball games provided by the Castle Rock Recreation Center. We are firm supporters of Miss Nicole and her athletic offerings for the younger set as they are proven character builders for my son as well as an outlet for him to discover his athletic abilities.

The play equipment at this park is massive compared to other park play areas and has a set of slides for every age group. The monkey bars are just a little bit different allowing the "monkey" to build new muscle by passing overhead bars that offset vertically every other bar, it is still challenging my son but with practice after the T-Ball games, he will master them I am sure.

One Local Side Note of Concern: Castle Rock's Fourth of July festivities scheduled to be at Rhyolite Regional Park this July, and I hope the town leaders give some serious thought and let the local population know about its parking plans well in advance. This Blogger would recommend offering a shuttle bus system in and out of the park from the DC fairgrounds to lighten the onslaught of traffic jams that are going to be a major hardship for Crystal Valley Ranch residents as well as Castle Rock residents just trying to drive to and from the park.

There were only four T-Ball games going on in our time slot meaning eight teams of players with supportive families filling the parking lot to overflow capacity. There were vehicles parked in the weeds and offered a glimpse at big problems when, not if, the town descends on the park this upcoming holiday.

I am sorry I was not able to photo the parking area while it was over capacity as we had to play on the equipment but you get the idea from the photos I posted here.

Overall I would rate this park as a gem and I hope the upcoming festivities do not tarnish it's character.

The park is south of the fairgrounds a couple miles in crystal Valley Ranch and no, I wouldn't think you could see the show because of the Geography of the land.
