Blog Entry 1 of 3 The mind? of a writer
Now I finally have time to follow my passion and become a published author. My children all have homes of their own and I am retired. I have completed one novel - "Mirror" and am trying to get it published while working on other books, some articles, and a correspondence writing class to sharpen my skills. Almost everything I see or hear has the potential to become either a story or part of a story. This blog will be the rambling of a woman who has many characters in her mind. There is no way of telling what any of these characters may do. I believe every person has something special about them which should be shouted to the world. I enjoy talking to people about their passion and their lives and am starting to put these human interst stories on YourHub.com.

Gaining on the dream

I am a writer. I can't remember a time I wasn't inventing stories and writing them. There are files upon files of short stories, beginning of stories, story ideas, poetry, etc. While I had my daughters at home, my writing came in bits and pieces, but never stopped. Once the girls were older I started going to a couple of writers' conferences and got a little more serious about my writing. But my writing had to be between work hours and family events. I can tell you it becomes very difficult to keep your mind on governmental accounting while story characters shout the things they want to say. I kept a pile of sticky notes beside me while I worked to quickly jot key words of what they were saying. I did finish my book, "Mirror," while I was still working but it meant late nights and time ignoring my family.

But now I'm retired. Now I have time to write and to market my book -- as long as I remember to say no to all the things people want me to do with my time. I have sent "Mirror" to some editors and shown it to almost anyone who showed the slightest interest in reading it. Everyone said they liked it and they gave me suggestions of ways to improve it. But nobody wanted to publish it. It didn't fit what they needed right now.

Now there's something new. One publisher sent me an email. She liked the book -- there are a couple places which need some work -- but she liked it. She wants to get together with me on Friday to talk about the book and about establishing a relationship with her publishing company. This is my dream. I'm one step closer to being published. There's no guarantee but I am one step closer. Today is only Tuesday. It seems like a very long time before that Friday meeting. I just keep on dreaming.
