Blog Entry 9 of 66 Around the County
Not only do I cover Douglas County for YourHub.com, I'm also a resident. Check in daily to learn about my life here. Sometimes I might talk about something personal, sometimes about something I'm covering for YourHub.com. It's all things Douglas County and Copeland.

Should Castle Rock be more than a place you live?
Contributed by: Angela Copeland   on 1/26/2006

When interviewing two outgoing town council members, Mayor Ray Waterman and Councilman Jay Richards, both men mentioned a need to do more in terms of economic development for Castle Rock. And in the words of  Waterman, "I don't mean McDonalds."

Both men were talking about genuine, professional work opportunities in Castle Rock. So many of us -- me included -- make the long trek to Denver for work. YourHub.com is housed at the Rocky Mountain News building on Colfax, so I am personally aware that the drive is 45 minutes on a good day, and if you are dealing with snow, you are talking close to three hours. There are days I wish I could be home in 30 minutes or less. Anyone else feel my pain out there?

What can the next council do to promote true economic development and diversity in the town of Castle Rock? Or do you think that it's not a good idea, and the town should stay primarily a bedroom community? What advice to you have to those who will be sworn in as town council members in April?
