Blog Entry 71 of 102 A Journalist's Musings
As a journalist, I don't often have the opportunity to share my opinion. So I thought I'd come over here and share my point of view on matters affecting our community and the state. I'm not afraid to take a stand, and I welcome the conversation that will follow if you tell me your point of view!

Snow removal improvements coming
Contributed by: Hank Lacey   on 8/30/2007

At its annual retreat Aug. 10, the Castle Rock Town Council discussed its goals and priorities for the upcoming year.

Among the objectives agreed upon is improvment in the town's snow removal policy and practice. All seven of the members of Town Council agreed this is necessary and staff presented an outline of a proposal that will be put in the form of an appropriate ordinance and/or resolution.

The basic terms of the improved snow removal policy under discussion are these: the town will plow all residential streets, using plows attached to small municipal trucks, during and after every snow storm between November 15 and March 15.

The town will also plow all residential streets during or after any storm expected to drop 8 or more inches of snow between October 15 and November 14 and between March 16 and April 15.

Of course the particulars could be different once the legislative process is complete. However, I think there is cause to be optimistic about a more efficient and more rational response to snow-clogged streets this winter.

I am grateful to my colleagues on the Town Council for their willingness to adopt these improvements and I sincerely congratulate each and every one of them on the imminent achievement of a goal shared by many of the town's residents, the staff, and all of the members of Town Council.
