A Journalist's Musings
As a journalist, I don't often have the opportunity to share my opinion. So I thought I'd come over here and share my point of view on matters affecting our community and the state. I'm not afraid to take a stand, and I welcome the conversation that will follow if you tell me your point of view!

Nine months ago the people of the Castlewood Ranch area honored me by electing me as their representative on this Council.
Since taking office last April I have tried to be a voice for a more restrained approach to growth and a greater sensitivity to its environmental impact. And, like the others who sit behind this dais, I have tried to be an advocate for fiscal restraint.
The residents of Castle Rock have some expectations of their local government. They deserve to have enough parks, enough roads, enough police officers and firefighters, more preserved open space and a lean, efficient Town Hall. This Council must make the difficult choices necessary to balance the tax revenues currently entrusted to the Town with these reasonable desires of those we serve, which are essential to preserving the quality of life here.
I hope this Council will continue to make progress on these goals and other important projects in this new year. However, I have decided the time is right for me to pursue some professional opportunities that are not compatible with continued service as an elected official.
Therefore, today I informed our town clerk, Sally Misare, that I intend to resign my seat on the Council effective January 26, 2008.
I hope that there will be some residents of Castlewood Ranch who are interested in becoming a candidate to fill this seat in the annual election to be held on April 1.
There will be a period in which you can file petition signatures necessary to get you on the ballot during the first three weeks of February. The Town also hosts an orientation meeting for prospective candidates on February 11 at the Red Hawk Ridge clubhouse.
Thank you for the confidence that you placed in me by electing me last April, and best of luck to my colleagues as they address the many challenges facing Castle Rock this year.
