Blog Entry 40 of 45 A view from The Hill
Hi, I'm Joey Kirchmer, author of this blog and a community journalist at YourHub.com. I live at the intersection of 13th and Washington, smack dab in the middle of Capitol Hill. If you have news tips about Capitol Hill or the greater Denver area, feel free to e-mail them to me at kirchmerj@yourhub.com. You can also call me at 303-954-2650. Otherwise, sit back, relax and enjoy these blog entries.

My semi-annual Web tips column

Every so often, I'll take a moment on this page to help clear up any confusion about posting your stories and photos to the YourHub.com Web site.

So without further ado, here are my five quick tips for our users:

1. Photos: In order for photos to run in the print edition, they need to be fairly large. A good rule of thumb is to keep your photos one megabyte or larger. Most digital cameras take pictures at least this big.

2. Headlines: If you ever notice that your headline has been changed, it's usually because we changed the caps. On our site, we don't capitalize every word in titles. So you'll only need to capitalize the first word of the title - and of course proper names.

3. Copy and paste: Most of our users write their stories in a Word document or something similar and then copy and paste their stories into the site. I strongly recommend this. I also recommend using a special feature as you copy and paste. Simply copy the text from the document and right click as you're about to paste it in the site. Choose the "Paste Plain Text" option. It will get rid of all the Word formatting that you usually don't need (or want).

4. Hyperlinks: If you receive a 404 error after trying to create a link in your story, keep trying. Occasionally, it usually takes a couple of times before it works. Just remember to be persistent with the hyperlink tool.

5. Content Finder: Of course, you've probably noticed we tease to the Web in the print edition by telling readers to enter a specific number in our Content Finder. You can find that feature on the front page of our site, directly above the area designated for the site's Web host. Simply enter the six-digit number in the Content Finder and click on the "Find" button.

One more thing: The upcoming primary race for State House District 45 is on the horizon. The District 45 race will feature a primary between Republicans Mark Sievers, of Cripple Creek, and Carole Murray, of Castle Rock.

Democrat Holly Gorman, of Castle Rock, currently is running unopposed for the seat.

The seat is being vacated by State Rep. Victor Mitchell, R-Castle Pines Village, who decided not to seek a second term. The mail-in ballot election is scheduled for Aug. 12.

YourHub.com hopes to have Q&As from both of these candidates in print soon, but you can give us your take on the race whenever you'd like.
