Description:

Kids with a need for speed will want to check out one of the new youth cycling events being held late this summer in Castle Rock.

Ride the Ridge will feature cross-country bike races at the Town's Memmen Ridge Open Space, South Street and Oman Road, on Sunday, Aug. 16.

On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Rhyolite Downhill Challenge will dare riders to fly down the side of Quarry Mesa via the Town's Mountain Bike Park at Rhyolite Regional Park, 1701 Crystal Valley Drive.

The course features dramatic elevation changes and provides cyclists with an off-road experience.

Both events are for cyclists ages 5 to 14.

The entry fee for each is $25 and includes a race T-shirt and prizes.

Registration can be completed at the Recreation Center, on CRgov.com (look under Outdoor Programs) or by calling 303-660-1036.
