Have you ever wondered how to talk to a girl?
Alec Greven, a third grade student, from Soaring Hawk Elementary has finally answered this question.
An excerpt from Chapter 3, titled Crushes, reads, "It is very hard to get a girl to like you. Sometimes it takes years to get a girl to like you. Girls can get crushes on boys. (Tip: How to get a girl to like you, talk to them and get to know them.) Sometimes show off your skills, like playing soccer. Anything that you are good at."
The book continues through many scenarios, including what to do if you are a class clown or shy and finally experiencing victory.
Anyone in need of a little help with talking to girls will want his book.
Alec's teacher,
Anna Dupree, shared his book with principal,
Laura Brinkman. Principal Brinkman suggested he publish his book and sell it at the school book fair.
With just this little hint of possibility planted in his thoughts, the ideas just kept coming. He thought Soaring Hawk should have a writing contest and all the winning entries could be part of the spring book fair. He will encourage all the new authors to donate a portion or all of their proceeds to a charity of their choice.
"How to Talk to Girls" was the best selling book at our recent book fair, according to librarian,
Janice Perry, and there were 20 orders for the book before the fair began. Priced at $3.00 per book, it brought in over $200 and Alec donated all the profits to the Soaring Hawk Running Track Fund.
Alec is busy working with the school's Administrative Intern,
Julie Browning to organize Soaring Hawk's First Annual Writing Contest which will kick off in January. Tattered Cover gift certificates will be the most coveted prizes.
Classmates are motivated by Alec's love of writing and inspirational attitude.
Savannah Morris and
Kamaryn Evans will be working on, "How to Talk to Boys" while
Sarah Hertig was motivated in a different way. Her piece of work will be entitled, "How to Get on a Boys Nerves."
Our spring book fair is sure to be unlike any other. Alec's teacher, Anna Dupree will have information on her class website if you are interested in learning more about Alec and his upcoming books.
Move over
