We've all seen them, from the classic Tiffany-style lampshades to the more contemporary designs - stained glass lampshades are artsy, eye-catching and always very popular.
Hot Tamada is a small stained glass workshop operated by
Vicky Holland of Castle Rock in Stoa, a new art boutique and bookstore at 425 S. Wilcox St.
Holland worked for years at a Denver art studio was working on a complicated rooster lamp pattern on Jan. 25 and told YourHub.com the lampshade was for her sister and brother-in-law, who love roosters.
She carefully pinned pieces of stained glass to a Styrofoam form, concentrating as she placed each piece in place. Later, the pieces receive a copper foil border and a later tacked in place with solder.
Holland explained the shade is later inverted and the light form removed before the delicate shade has all the pieces soldered permanently. The shade she is working to complete now has been around a couple of years, but she has finished one in as little as four weeks she said, adding she also makes jewelry and has added three kilns to her operation.
As for the name, Hot Tamada, Holland says she chose it because that's what her husband has called her since 1968.
