Nature's Illusions, a special exhibit of Byung Wha's photography, and Hover Montes'
Peruvian Weavings and Tapestries are on display at the Philip S. Miller Library (100 South Wilcox in Castle Rock, 303-791-READ,
DouglasCountyLibraries.org) Dec. 1-Jan. 4 during library hours (9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays).
Born in Korea, Wha uses a scanner, rather than a camera, to create her work. The pieces oftentimes remind viewers of underwater images. Wha believes that light, rather than a specific setting, is the crucial element of her work. Wha received a BA, with honors, in photography and digital imaging from the RinglingCollege of Art & Design. She moved to Castle Rock in 2006.
A native of Peru, Hover Montes' textile work is a permanent part of the collection at the National Museum of Peru. His exhibitions include shows in WashingtonD.C. for the Organization of American States, the World Bank, the Department of State Building and the National Geographic Headquarters, as well as shows in Japan, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Bulgaria, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, France and Spain. Montes has been weaving matchless textiles for over forty years. His first exhibition was held when he was nine years old, in LimaPeru. Today he resides in Castle Rock.
