Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce endorses District bond/budget measure
During its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, September 18, the Chamber of Commerce of Highlands Ranch Board of Directors endorsed the Douglas County School District bond and budget measure. Both measures will appear on the November 2008 ballot.
Issues 3A (mil levy override) and 3B (bond) will provide additional funding to: maintain and
improve academic achievement, maintain and improve technology, recruit and retain the best
teachers, build 10 new elementary schools to keep up with growth, provide for renovations,
updates, repairs and/or expansions at almost 50 schools and buildings, improve technology
infrastructure at ALL schools, and strategically build out of 4-track.
Steve Dyer, President of the Chamber says, "The Chamber Board felt this increase was worth the investment because quality education creates quality students who become quality employees. Businesses and employees relocate to areas that have quality schools. Douglas County has a great education system but needs to continue investing and reinvesting dollars to stay on the cutting edge of technology and provide a quality learning environment for its students."
Dyer adds, "The Board recognizes and understands the challenges each member faces with the current economy but feels that the short and long term benefits outweigh the upfront investment in Douglas County."
The Chamber of Commerce has more than 300 members representing more than 3,000 employees. Its goal is to educate, support and promote local businesses and the Highlands Ranch community.
