It all started when somebody planted some local campaign signs in an abandoned mattress. The deserted mattress was located in the middle of a street somewhere in Highlands Ranch. Someone came across the odd scene, took photos, and started circulating the pictures via email to campaign volunteers for the library (5A) and school (3A/B) ballot issues.
Area campaigners agree on two points: (1) it's best not to throw mattresses in the street, and (2) funny photos like this can bring a good dose of humor to hardworking campaign volunteers, who have been diligently slogging away for months to educate Douglas County voters about the ballot issues.
The photos inspired some Yes to Libraries volunteers to pitch "It Mattress to Me" rallies at both the Parker and Lone Tree Libraries on Oct. 26. It's strange, but it's true.
If you want to
speak up for your library and Issue 5A, head to the
Parker Library (10851 S. Crossroads Dr at Parker Road & Main Street) or the
Neighborhood Library at Lone Tree from
noon to 2 p.m. this
Sunday, October 26. Bring your signs, your friends, your kids, and well, maybe some bedding. Some groups are actually planning to bring decorated mattresses to the outdoor rallies.
