Colorado Photographer's Work on Display in Geometric Sequence Exhibit

Colorado photographer Merrimon Crawford has three images on display in a juried exhibit at the Caladan Gallery. Please feel free to visit the gallery's online exhibit from November 1-December 14, 2009.

GEOMETRIC SEQUENCE

The origin of patterning comes from nature; it exists within construction, of environments that include this natural world, as well as the world invented by us. We see geometric patterning everywhere around us. Despite the fact that geometric sequence is borne out of a cornucopia of circumstance and realities, there does seem to be a thread of continuity and unification present, and this is illustrated by the work in this exhibition. Even among the seemingly random juxtaposition of form and energy in some of the works, the basic order of the physical world presents itself. Whether this order is obvious, or assumed, or suggested, it is the combination of presentations in this exhibition that ensures and clarifies its understanding.

Merrimon Crawford's passion for photography began when she bought her first SLR camera at age 12 with winnings from Bingo at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club. Her study of photography began a few months later at Phillips Academy (Andover, Massachusetts). She received a B.A. in photography and literature from Bennington College. Color and digital photography mark a new direction in her artwork. Bold design and composition characterize the photographic images of Merrimon Crawford. Her urban landscapes focus on fragments of a scene, drawing the viewer's attention to details not frequently seen during their daily use. Although she photographs a concrete and often recognizable subject matter, her artwork has an abstract quality.
