I remember empty fields across from Castle Rock Middle School when I worked there in 2000. Now, it's a flurry of activity. Progress can be a wonderful thing, however I'm mourning the loss of some of those magnificent vistas. What businesses or developments are going directly across from the school, and to the southwest of it?

Most of the area you are referring to will be developed into new homes. The Castle Rock Development Company, developer of The Meadows planned community, is working with builders on putting up new houses and making upgrades on the surrounding streets.

According to Jack Bestall, development director for Castle Rock Development Company, contractors are working on the first phase of construction for the residential portion of what's called The Meadows Town Center.

The Meadows Town Center is a 270-acre mixed-use residential and commercial area associated with The Meadows. The Town Center will one day be the focal point of The Meadows, according to the Castle Rock Development Company.

The commercial phase of the project has not yet begun. Developers expect about 50,000 square feet of space for offices and shops, which will one day be located at the intersection of Meadows Parkway and Prairie Hawk Drive, across the street from the Cinema 12 movie theater

You probably won't be buying your groceries or sipping on lattes at the Town Center anytime soon though. The commercial phase of the Town Center likely won't be completely finished for another five to 10 years, Bestall said.

It is likely that the first phase of the commercial portion of the project will begin in late 2007 or sometime in 2008.
