Who is the Original Goddess?
The Vedic Viewpoint and Other Spiritual Perspectives
Everyone is into goddesses these days. They want to be a goddess themselves or they glorify different Hollywood or Bollywood stars as goddesses, or they have Tarot cards with goddess pictures on them, or they have some picture or statue of a goddess in their home. I have seen some pretty wicked looking pictures of so called goddesses at different gift shops. These are not really goddesses and are portrayed without any real knowledge or facts behind them.
Sri Mati Radharani or Sri Radha is the original Goddess. All other true goddesses emanate from Her. There are no other goddesses before Her. She is the original counterpart of the Original Supereme God Known as Krishna. Supreme means first and all other expansions emanate from Them. Sri Radha is love, devotion, compassion and beauty personified. She is in the mood of a pure lover of God and He considers Her love the highest of all others. She has unlimited expansions called Gopis' who are also completely spiritual goddesses. Her form is completely spiritual, eternal and unlimited (not made of material elements). The goddesses of the material world are temporary, material and limited.
Mother Mary in the Christian tradition is an expansion of Sri Radha in the mood and service of a mother. Maya also known as Durgha or Katyayani is the expansion of Radha who oversees the material creation and is the mistress of illusion to keep the unsurendered souls in illusion of their material desires. She has but a fraction of Sri Radhas qualities and glories as stated in the Srimad Bhagavatam. Laksmi, the Goddess of fortune is an immediate expansion of Sri Radha and Her form qualities etc. are all spiritual. Her mood is as a Queen with awe and reverence for Her eternal Lord. She is the source of all wealth who is sought after by everyone, knowingly or unknowingly, though she wants our wealth to be used in the service of the Lord. (Vishnu, Narayan, Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, and so many other names He is known by.) Many people have a picture of Her in a sari standing or sitting on a Lotus flower alone. Laksmi should never be worshiped alone, because She is always with Her worshipable Lord Narayan and His many expansions. So worshiping a picture or Deity of Laksmi without Her most worship able Lord is not recommended.
There are other goddesses in the material heavenly planets and they are considered the most beautiful women in the whole material creation. Many call them angels and they do not have wings though they do travel throught the skies on their flower or swan airplanes. They rarely come to this world anymore due to the insurmountable sinful activities being performed here. They are always with their husbands or demigods and they are generally expert singers, musicians or dancers. They generally dress in a sari or long silk cloth wearing exquisite jewels and gold.
Devi means goddess or godly woman and Deva means demigod or godly man. We are all godly in our original positions but this means little goddesses and gods not the Supreme God who is the Creator and knower of everything or what is the point of God. All other goddesses and gods are the servants of the Supreme divine couple according to the Vedic Literature.
There are goddesses on this planet such as Mother earth herself named Boomi who is an expansion of Maya. Then there is Yamuna devi, Ganga devi and Saraswati devi who reside in the rivers in India of those names. Anyone who bathes in these rivers has all of their sins washed away by these Spiritual goddesses. Then there is Tulasi devi also known as Bhakti devi and holy basil who is actually an eternal goddess in the form of a basil tree. Many people take Her leaves for medicinal purposes but this is only recommended if her leaves are first offered to the Deity of Krishna, Rama or Vishnu before taking them. Her leaves should never be boiled as a tea which is very popular to do these days. Her main purpose is to serve God with pure love and devotion and to bestow others with Bhakti or devotion to God. Anyone who goes to a place where the sacred Tulasi tree resides, all of their sins are forgiven.
All of these goddesses are expansions of Sri Mati Radharani. So many people are worshiping Durgha devi or Maya but that worship will only get one more entangled in the material world, because they do not know what to ask her for. If one is a Durgha devi worshiper then their prayer should be "Dear Mother Durgha kindly release me from your powerful illusion and allow me to be absorbed in the spiritual reality of the Absolute Truth." Actually if one wants to get free from this material energy Maya, then they should worship the spiritual energy known as Sri Mati Radharani or Hare. She can bestow the highest spiritual pleasure and deliver one from this material world.
This month is Kartik which is the month to get Sri Radharanis' blessings.(Oct. 6th to Nov. 5th) Any devotional service performed this month one gets 100 times the spiritual merit for that service performed, no matter what your religion.
God and Goddess are one, they are never separate yet they separate themselves eternally to perform unlimited spiritual pastimes of Love. We can assist them in their divine spiritual pastimes if we choose to
by chanting the Maha mantra or the chant for deliverance.
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
Meaning- "Oh Supreme Goddess, and energy of the Lord Hare, Oh Supreme Lord Krishna, Oh pleasure giving potency of the Lord Rama, kindly engage me in your blissful, loving devotional service eternally."
