GOING GREEN IN CASTLE ROCK
Shining a Light for Jesus and the Environment
During the week of July 23 Genesis Church of Castle Rock will launch an environmentally friendly campaign called, "This Little Light of Mine", with the distribution of 1,000 elogic™ Soft White Mini bulbs from SYLVANIA.
The hope is for the campaign to literally shine a light for Jesus and the environment with the new energy efficient elogic™ light bulbs and accompanying information that will educate and encourage the Castle Rock community to care for creation by "living green."
"We believe the best way to help people understand and practice care of God's creation is to enable them to act responsibly", comments Pastor Rand Clark, whose year-old church start is dedicated to serving Jesus through connecting creation with the Creator. "With the help of SYLVANIA's generous donation, we will place environmentally friendly light bulbs in people's hand."
Clark, along with Pastor Bobby Dean had a strong desire to start a church in the Castle Rock area to serve the needs of a growing population and began building a congregation with a handful of people in the fall of 2006. In the beginning of 2007, Clark and Dean, along with three families, came to the realization that God wanted Genesis to be more than just another new church.
"God was leading us to become a church that connected with the values of the people of Castle Rock," explains Clark when asked about new direction of the church. "He was leading us to champion the cause of creation by connecting creation to the Creator; Himself."
As Genesis entered the summer months, the ministry's focus changed from what the church will look like to doing the hard work of building a church centered on Jesus and "green" values.
"We will have monthly worship gatherings on the 2nd Sunday of every month, monthly relationship building events, community service projects, times of prayer and devotions, children's ministry, and more," remarks Clark when asked about Genesis' immediate future. "We plan to launch weekly services this fall starting on Sunday, September 9."
