Our neighbors
Contributed by: Elsie Lillian on 10/11/2006

The melting pot of various ethnic backgrounds used to be associated with Ellis Island. Now apparently, Colorado has become a central place as more and more people are making the state their home.

A good example of this mixture of background is noted at Cantril House, an assisted living community run by Castle Country Assisted Living in Castle Rock. Interviewing the11 residents that call Cantril House home, it was noted how different each life had been.

Their backgrounds were so different, some coming from Swedish, German, Celtic, English, Spanish and even from Jamaica. Coming from different states, each one completely confident that their state had the most perfect weather and views than any other place. It seemed that the weather back there was never too hot or too cold.

It is hard to believe those people from Pennsylvania, Kansas, Texas, Nebraska, Iowa and other places when they tell of their lives in those exotic places. Surely, they must have had a different weather man that the ones we listen to on TV.

There isnt one resident here who was born in Colorado. However, with the fast growing population, we who love the state know we would rather live here raising our eyes to the beautiful mountains and enjoying the changing seasons than live anywhere else.

Elsie Lillian has been a resident of Castle Rock for 60 Years. She was a real estate broker for 25 years and has written for several newspapers. Ms. Lillian is a resident of Castle Country Assisted Living, Cantril House.
