North’s knitting designs published in Knit Simple
Contributed by: Aspen Walker on 7/26/2007

Kathy North, a supervisor in the Technical Services department at Douglas County Libraries, and an avid knitter, recently learned that her knitted hat design was selected to grace the cover of the fall issue of Knit Simple magazine.

Additionally, the magazine has contracted with North to provide several additional knitting patterns. North is renowned for her charitable activities, including knitted baby blankets

"It's fun to get actually get paid for something you publish," remarked North. "This is the culmination of my life-long passion, and I want to thank everyone who has provided support through all the years, including family, friends and co-workers."

North's daughter and Pam Benton, a co-worker, recently held a surprise party at the Philip S. Miller Library in honor of North and her achievement.

North autographed copies of the front page of Knit Simple, and everyone enjoyed cupcakes designed to look like little balls of yarn, complete with knitting needles made of toothpicks.

North doesn't limit her knitting pursuits to creative design, she is also involved in a variety of charitable knitting projects. North donates designs and items to CareWear Volunteers, a national nonprofit organization that provides hand-knit, crocheted & sewn clothing to preemies, newborns and hospital patients throughout the country.

North also organizes an annual Snug Hugs for Kids charitable drive at Douglas County Libraries. Library staff donates hand-knit & crocheted children's clothing (scarves, hats, mittens). North has also been involved with Christmas Crochet, and in charitable knitting projects for sailors and soldiers.

Locally, North's work is carried at Stoa (425 Wilcox Street, C astle Rock) and Handmade Colorado (562 E.Castle Pines Parkway,Suite C-5, Castle Pines North). North's knitting designs are online at www.designsbykn.com. Douglas County Libraries is online at DouglasCountyLibraries.org.
