Sittin' on top of the world
Contributed by: Barbara Neff on 11/28/2005

I cannot say enough good things about Castlewood Canyon. What a fantastic discovery!  Though I lived in the Denver area throughout the eighties, I somehow missed this local gem.

Amenities at this fabulous state park tucked just south of Franktown on Highway 83 include miles and miles of family-suitable hiking trails, more than 2,000 acres of incredible Black Forest beauty, clean and modern restrooms and pavilions, a first class visitor information center and, the crown jewel, the ruins of the Castlewood Dam which broke in 1933 causing the second worst flood in Denver's history. Intrigued?  Rightfully so!

Find our more at www.parks.state.co.us or take a drive out and see for yourself. You are sure to fall in love with the place as our family has.

Just one more reason to love Douglas County.
