More than just waiting on Christmas Eve Eve
Contributed by: Barbara Neff on 12/23/2007

The hours can pass excrutiatingly slowly for children during the days leading up to Christmas morning. Today is officially Christmas Eve Eve, as we call it at our house--the day before Christmas Eve.

In spite of the begging today, opening a few gifts early is out, as is shopping (done, thank goodness) and sharing a big holiday feast.

Since our sons, Hayden, age twelve, and Carson, age nine, were wee tots, we have followed a family tradition of building a gingerbread house in the days right before Christmas.

Today we spent more than an hour assembling and decorating this year's gingerbread house. Hayden and Carson took great care in decorating and equally great care in sneaking candy adornments and frosting when I turned my back.

Here is a photo of this season's finished product. We are pleased with the outcome and wish to share.

Merry Christmas!

My brother and I used to make graham cracker houses for friends and neighbors. It was a fun time assembling the houses and sampling some of the decorations. :-) I know of a couple who still have a house we made for them almost a decade ago.
