When we were in
Manitou Springs
yesterday, less than an hours' drive from Castle Rock - with the traffic - we saw people from all over coming to drink from the many spring fountains interspersed throughout the largely funky hippy-like foothills community built into a rock. It is common for people to travel away from their own state - taking for granted the beauty and interests nearby. I would suggest to the reader to enjoy local Manitou Springs. Just pretend that you got off of a plane, rented a car, and drove here from DIA.
Manitou was once a haven for tuberculosis sufferers and still draws people who believe there are curative properties in the water. Every time I am there, I see someone filling up jugs of mineral water. Each fountain boasts a different mix - and there's even one that said it had "lithia" (lithium). One older couple was filling up a gallon jug from that spring. You should start at the visitors center and pick up a map of all of the springs and start walking. Of course, since we (

) do restaurant reviews, we had to ask what restaurant the town was most proud of. Hands-down,
The Cliff House
(
www.thecliffhouse.com
)is regarded as the best place to eat in Manitou Springs. And, fancy but not pricey. We ate out on the front porch where Teddy Roosevelt and Henry Ford probably ate.I was imagining the changes across the street at the original Manitou Spa once they have refurbished the place and have those lofts built. Then there was Manitou's Miramont Castle complete with a High Tea Room. You can take a tour, but we will save that for a future trip. We climbed up and through the castle and took pictures from the top. I will be making a slideshow of our Manitou Springs journey with all of the fountains we visited. You will be able to see it on:

I would suggest saving this website as a favorite and frequenting it because we are now branching out into other avenues such as our recommendations for day trip vacations in our beautiful state.
