Saturday Night at
The Spur of the Moment
8885 Spruce Mountain Road
Larkspur, CO 80118
Sometimes after a long period of marriage, it's hard for a spouse to find the perfect birthday present. That was the difficult spot
Laura Richardso
n's hubby,
Dave
faced this year. His wife was turning 50 and they had shared so many birthdays and Christmases and were frankly tiring of the non-stop materialism of our land. Both of them would stay up late in their Larkspur country home and play guitars and sing to each other. That's when the Idea blossomed.
Dave got in contact with
Mark Todd
of the
Soho Band
. Mark and his partner
Cindy Carpenter
have playedvenues in Southern Douglas County for a while. Dave then lined up the venerable
Spur of the Moment
, a Larkspur Landmark for over 50 years, and the plans were laid for Laura's best birthday party ever. Dave invited many of Laura's friends to come to the Spur for her birthday bash. As the guests arrived, Dave gave each guest two tickets good for two drinks.
Mark Todd set up a full speaker system for a nightclub venue and began singing songs of Laura's youth (1960-1970's) along with playing the guitar. People got up and danced and sang. Soon, (as planned) Mark got Laura to sing a duet with him. Later Laura and her husband did several more duets. Everyone had a ball and this bash lived up to its promise as the best birthday ever. It goes to show that you don't have to give diamonds or a Lexus to be a great husband.
