Three factors to fitness success
Contributed by: Mark Clark/Village Fitness on 3/29/2007

We all seem to have those excuses to begin a fitness program. "I don't have the time" "I don't know what I am doing" "I tried it and it doesn't work."

Let's look at those concerns.

· There are 168 hours in a week. You only need five of those hours to make a difference in fitness.

· Maybe you don't know what you are doing now but I know you can find a friend, professional or book that can get you started.

· It absolutely works if you find the time and you learn how to do it.

Get past those three excuses and you have found the three key factors to a successful fitness program.

· Consistency: You can't expect results if you don't show up.

· Technique: Safety first. Learning proper technique is essential in developing any skill.

· Intensity: If your body is already capable of doing something then no change will occur. You have to safely stress your system every day.

Commit to these three keys as if your life may depend on it ... because it might.

Take that pledge to consistently devote 3 to 5 hours of fitness training every week. Put it on your calendar or day-timer. If you miss a workout then make it up that week. No exceptions.

Make your number one short term goal to work on and learn proper technique.
Understand what we mean by intensity. If working out correctly was easy everyone would be doing it.

Look around... everyone isn't doing it.

It's not brain surgery. It is desire, dedication, enthusiasm and perseverance. Traits we all have and use in our jobs and our relationships with friends and families.

What's the pay-off? How about you accomplishing something that very few individuals are capable of completing.

Feeling, sleeping, eating and looking better, thinking clearer and most important being better. Make this poster right now and put it somewhere that you will see every morning.

To your health

Amen. One additional piece of advice. Find a physical activity you love and do it to get fit. If your workout feels like work, if you find yourself awash in dread before it and looking at the clock during it, chances are slim you'll stick to it. Fun and fitness really can go together.
