In just a few weeks, Village Fitness Club will become the first business in Douglas County to offer the internationally renowned Les Mills fitness classes.
Beginning next month, the group fitness-to-music classes will combine the latest trends in music with choreography, the latest developments in exercise science, and the Les Mills organization's ongoing research and development program.
According to Susie Nelson, general manager of Village Fitness Club, Village Fitness initially will offer BodyPump™ and BodyCombat™, two of the eight Les Mills classes.
BodyPump is a 60-minute toning and conditioning class with weights. BodyCombat is a 55-minute, non-contact, martial arts-based cardio program with moves drawn from Karate, Tae Kwan Do, Kung Fu, kickboxing, Muay Thai and Tai Chi.
Developed by New Zealand Olympic athlete Les Mills in the 1960s, the organization's program distinguishes itself through a standardized global network of instruction and training to ensure a program-driven approach, explains Andrea Dyer, consultant for Les Mills South Central and a Castle Rock resident.
Les Mills' instructors must maintain national fitness certifications and appropriate experience before completing training in choreography, technique, coaching, connection, and creating "fitness magic." Ongoing instruction during the year assures continual development of new classes and choreography, says Dyer.
Les Mills classes currently run in nearly 11,000 clubs in more than 70 countries, with an estimated four million participants a week.
Bringing the Les Mills program to Castle Rock "not only complements our existing programs, but puts Castle Rock, and Douglas County, on the map in a way it has never been before," says Nelson. "Les Mills is an internationally known, cutting-edge program that allows us to further express our commitment to wellness and fitness in the community."
