Ricque-Ann Zerr, the daughter of Richard and Mylene Zerr is thankful for having a Thanksgiving birthday. This year it is the day before, on Nov. 22, and she will be 12 years of age. She is a fifh grader at Castle Rock Elementary School.
Her dad,
Richard Zerr, Gardemanger chef, will be concentrating on feeding a large group of guests at the Inverness Thanksgiving banquent buffet, as well as sculpting ice and fruit and making exotic cold tray entres'.
He always works the holidays while his wife,
Mylene and daughter, Ricque-Ann, are celebrating being direct decendents of
John Alden and
Priscilla, of the Mayflower, who's famous story "Speak for yourself, John," which Priscilla said in answer to
Myles Standish's message, is known to all.
This gives them membership in the Colorado chapter, of the Society of Mayflower Decendents. This year the Colorado Society had their annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Denver Country Club on Nov. 11. The families original membership was in Boston. Mom is a school teacher.and will be showing children a video from Plymouth, Mass. on the original Thanksgiving. The grandfather of the family was named Myle, after Myles Standish and mom was named Mylene, from Myles.
So, this Thanksgiving, that originated in 1620, and became a national holiday, there are lots of reasons to celebrate our heritage and how fortunate we are to have such abundance in the U.S.A. during wartime - with our prayers and thoughts going to the men and women in the service and all their leaders.
