Castle Rock Historic Preservation Board releases walking tour brochure of historic Craig & Gould neighborhood
Would you order your house from a catalog? That's what
Emil Breselow did in 1920. Breselow ordered his house, now located at 213 Cantril St., from the Sears & Roebuck catalog.
That factoid and more can be found among the 24 highlighted properties in the just-released Walking Tour of the Historic Craig & Gould Neighborhood brochure. In addition to valuable information about each of the properties, the map also includes information about the 2005 Craig & Gould Improvement Project. This brochure, created by the Town's Historic Preservation Board, is a complement to the 2006 Historic Downtown Walking Tour brochure and offers residents and visitors another way to enjoy the charm of Castle Rock.
"The brochures are important because they help educate the community on the history of the Town and highlight historic preservation efforts being carried out by the Board, "said
Jeff Brasel, long-range planning manager for the Town. "Most of the properties listed are designated landmarks, but others were either architecturally significant or associated with someone important in the Town's past."
More historic tours could be in the works. Brasel said the Historic Preservation Board is discussing the possibility of developing an historic driving tour for areas outside of the Town. Additionally, Town staff is working with the Board on an historic signage program that would better highlight important historic locations and events.
