ATTENTION WWII, KOREAN AND VIETNAM VETS
You may have heard about it-the Veteran's History Project-or you may have thought about wanting to tell your story--or wanted your mom or dad to have their sacrifices for their country recorded. You may already know the value to yourself and to your country to tell your story. Maybe all that was missing was the information about how to get it all done.
The Veteran's History Project was established by the US Congress in 2000 as part of the American Folklife center at the Library of Congress with a mission to collect and archive the personal recollections of U.S. wartime veterans in an effort to honor and share their service.
But you don't need to go to Washington, D.C. in order to get this done because it can be professionally done right here in the Denver metro area. Best of all, it's free to you, with highly trained volunteers coming to you.
A trained team including a camera person and an interviewer will set up a time to come visit at your home. Once the veteran has all questions answered, has spent some time with the volunteers and is ready to start, another interview will be set up.
This interview is digitally taped for the permanent records mentioned. The interview itself focuses on the veteran's war stories and personal recollections. Any personal memorabilia such as photos, letters, documents, diaries or journals can also be archived along with the interview. A copy of the digitized end product is given both to the veteran and to the Library of Congress.
Volunteers of America, a non-profit agency located downtown, is sponsoring the project for Denver, western Arapahoe and Douglas counties. Please call Stephanie Samora, project manager, at 720-264-3311for further information or to schedule your interview.
