Then & Now: Louviers Clubhouse connects community
Contributed by: Aspen Walker on 10/4/2005

After four years of meticulous renovations, the Louviers Village Clubhouse, home to Louviers Library, is a testament to the elegant craftsmanship of days gone by. While the library was able to stay open through most of the overhaul, the new (yet decidedly antique) ambiance of the eighty-eight year old building is a a stroke of good luck for library patrons. The Clubhouse’s original candy store has been converted to a charming reading room where you can relax in vintage style. A service bell is located in the reading room for patrons who are unable to ascend the stairs to the library. Library staff will gladly bring materials down the stairs. The library also plans to add a computer, with Internet access, to the new room. Stop by Louviers Library, located at 7885 Louviers Boulevard (west of Highway 85 between Sedalia and Titan Road) for a look at genuine Douglas County history.

The Louviers Village Clubhouse was originally built by Dupont, as a community center for the company town hard at work manufacturing dynamite. In addition to the library, the Clubhouse features Colorado's oldest bowling alley, a billiard's rooom, gym and card room. The Clubhouse is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.

The Louviers Library is online at www.DouglasCountyLibraries.org.
