Then & Now: MacDonald's in Sedalia
Contributed by: Mary Young on 10/3/2005

John MacDonald and his wife lived behind thier grocery store in Sedalia. He was known as "Peanut John" for the barrel of peanuts that stood by the door. Mrs. MacDonald always had candy in her apron pocket for visiting children. John and his horse were killed by a train, and his widow's ghost can still be seen in the dark streets of  Sedalia around Halloween.

The building  served as an Odd Fellows Lodge and Jasmine Rebekah Lodge for many years. A recent remodel revealed the original sign and restored the front windows. Coming full circle, Sisters gift shop now occupies the building.
