Congratulations to Douglas County High School student Alex Levin who was selected as the top senior male in the college scholarship competition at the Colorado State Thespian Conference held Nov. 29-Dec. 1.

Levin, of Larkspur, won a $1,000 scholarship to the school of his choice for his performance of the song Where is the Life that Late I Led by Cole Porter and his rendition of a monologue from Moliere's comedy Scapin.

"It's pretty overwhelming," he said. "When I went into that audition, my main focus was to audition for schools. When I was told the next morning I had won the scholarship, I was like wow."

The entertainment gene runs in the Levin family. His parents, Robert and Paula, met while working at the NBC studios in Burbank, Calif. Paula worked as a camerawoman for shows like Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Robert worked as a technical hand.

"My parents were just as amazed as I am," he said. "There's a lot of talent in Colorado, so to be given a scholarship is extremely flattering. It's quite a compliment."

He has since applied to six conservatory-based colleges, including Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh and Roosevelt University in Chicago.

The actor/singer/dancer has played the lead role in several DCHS plays, including his roles as Alfred P. Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Cosmo Brown in Singing in the Rain and the Beast in Beauty and the Beast.

He will also star in DCHS's production of the Little Shop of Horrors which is scheduled to run Feb. 22, 23 and 24 at the high school. Call 303-387-1000 for more information.

Hooray Alex!
