She's a Tor-N-ado!

Torrey Nicole Medina (also known as Tornado to her family) will be graduating from Douglas County HS in just a few weeks!

Wow - what a quick journey it has been! At least as far as we her parents are concerned. Torrey has dabbled and excelled in many things during her last 12 years in school...having grown up here in Castle Rock.

Her school days started when she was only in Preschool at the ripe old age of 4 yrs old. A couple of moms here in the Castle Rock community decided to start a home preschool that would rotate from home to home. It was called Joy School!

I think there might have been a hidden purpose from the mother's group that at least you only had to have all 8 kids in your home for a few hours every eight weeks, but the kids seem to enjoy it and grew to love their classmates. Oh, did I mention contacting the Chicken Pox on the first day! At least they all had it at the same time...a bit of a rough start for that school year!

Next, Torrey moved off to the wonders of Kindergarten at Academy Charter School. Little did she know, that she would not "escape" until leaving for High School. So many of her classmates endured their parents' wrath of making them attend a school with UNIFORMS for 9 years and continued with Torrey to Douglas County High School.

When Torrey began her high school career, she was quick to try out all the wonders of a big High School...she enjoyed Theatre and many of the accelerated classes available to her. However, as her mom, I believe her biggest year to blossom has been this, her Senior year! Torrey has enjoyed friends, dances, a job, teachers (yes, great teachers at DCHS) and absolutely tormenting a younger sibling about going to Castle View HS.

Torrey is soon to be off to her dad's alma mater, the University of Colorado - Boulder. She is so excited to be part of the large campus and to meet new friends, while having many of her friends from DCHS there, too!

Okay parents, here's the hard part...how do you let this great kid leave your daily presence? I have no idea...this is our first one to go...I hope it gets easier!
Torrey has become a beautiful young woman. She's confident, intelligent and independent. Wasn't this what her father and I worked for? Darn, we did too good of a job!

Torrey, your family is so proud of you! I hope we tell you that enough, and will be waiting to see how you expand your horizons as a wonderful adult! We know that you be an asset to your university and to all of the people around you. We'll always be here for you, and so proud to call you our daughter!

Love you,

Mom and Dad
