CASTLE ROCK HOLDS "HI-TECH" SUPPORT THE TROOPS RALLY
With Congress passing a "non-binding" resolution expressing no confidence in President Bush's troop surge in Iraq (which some might be tempted to call "The Enemies of America Encouragement Act), and with the liberal media making a determined effort to present only bad news from the warfront, as well as negative poll numbers on the war, what's an American who supports the war effort to do? Well...
On President's Day, approximately 150-200 people gathered in Castle Rock to honor our troops and to express support for their mission. Held at the library bandstand, the rally featured a Young Marine color guard, the Director of Veteran's Services for Douglas County, Henry Bohne, local clergyman and former Naval Commander, Doug Barker, and speaker Tom Bock, last year's National Commander of the American Legion.
According to Mr. Bock, who visited Iraq in 2006, contrary to the drumbeat of the liberal media, the citizens there gave him three messages for the American people: 1) "Thank you," 2) "Don't leave until the job is done" and 3) "Be patient with us." Following a prayer and the crowd singing "God Bless America," led by Jeff and Sharon Lindsay, everyone was invited to be photographed with a sign, stating, "CASTLE ROCK, CO SUPPOSTS THE TROOPS AND THE MISSION."
In an effort to utilize modern technology to encourage our military, this picture, or "digital postcard," will be sent to our service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan over the Internet-and posted on a new Web site, SupporttheTroopsandtheMission.com.
Individuals are encouraged to download this photo and send it to any active-duty military they know, especially those serving in the war against terrorism. People are also urged to take similar digital postcards with their families, friends, churches or other community groups and submit them to the Web site for posting.
The site will also feature links to other organizations that specify the many ways Americans can encourage those fighting to defend us around the world.
