People came through World Gym in Castle Rock throughout March 12 to give up a piece of themselves -- their hair.
The Locks of Love cut-a-thon was the idea of
Chris Hanenburg
, of Castle Rock, and soon she had many in her corner helping to plan and carry out the event. Her daughter,
Kaili
, and her daughter's friend
Alyssa Adamson
were among those who gave up their hair in hopes it would inspire others to do the same.
After each segment of hair was cut, the hair was quickly placed into a clear baggie identifying the donor.
Charlie
and
Kim Johnson
, of the UPS store on Front Street in Castle Rock, donated their services to package and ship the donations to the Locks of Love headquarters in Florida.
In addition to the haircuts, the event had a festival atmosphere with visits and demonstrations from the Castle Rock Fire Department, Ronald McDonald, the Red Robin bird and a professional whistling troupe. Also on hand was
Cindy Loo
, of Aurora, painting the faces of both children and adults.
