Sheriff's office looking for burglary suspects
Contributed by: Douglas County Sheriffs Office on 6/30/2008

Douglas County Sheriff deputies and SWAT team members are actively looking for two suspects who fled from deputies and shot at the deputies vehicles.

At around 3 a.m. June 28, dispatch received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the Silver Heights subdivision of Castle Rock in the unincorporated area of Douglas County. While deputies were in the area, they received an additional call from the same area about a burglary in progress and a vehicle leaving the scene. Deputies spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it.

The suspect vehicle did not stop for the deputies and continued to flee, driving west on Wolfensberger. During this time one of the suspects in the vehicle shot at deputies, hitting their vehicles. One deputy did receive injuries to his arm and his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The vehicle stopped at a location south of Hwy 105 and Wolfensberger and the two suspects then fled the vehicle running into the treed area at that location. A perimeter was set up and the SWAT team was activated. An Emergency Preparedness Notification (EPN) was sent out in a three mile radius from that location to 680 phones to notify residents that the suspects were still at large, and believed to be armed.

The two suspects were said to be white males in their early 20s. As of this release, 2,400 calls have been made through an EPN. Residentswere instructed to stay in their homes, lock their doors and windows, and to immediately report anything suspicious to 911.

The deputy received minor injuries and has already been released from the hospital.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is continuing to actively investigate this incident, and is asking the public for its assistance with any information that may be related by contacting our tip hotline at 303-660-7579.

Updates will be released when additional information is available.
