Ducky Derby offers $1 million prize
Contributed by: Joseph Kirchmer/YourHub.com on 4/23/2008

The stakes are a little bigger for this year's Ducky Derby.

The annual event, which is a fundraiser for several local nonprofits including the Women's Crisis and Family Intervention Center, is offering participants a chance to win $1 million.

The prize is easily the most that's been offered in the history of the Ducky Derby, said Castle Rock Rotary member Steve Baroch.

If the $1 million ducky is not chosen, the first prize winner will win $3,000, Baroch said. The derby also will offer other prizes.

The derby works like a lottery, he said. Participants buy a number, which is taped to the bottom of a rubber duck. The duck is then floated down a stream - in this case Plum Creek - and if the number of the duck that arrives first at the finish line matches up with the secret number chosen before the race, the owner of the duck wins the prize, Baroch said.

Tickets are being sold now by members of the Castle Rock Rotary at local grocery stores throughout Douglas County, he said.

Tickets can also be purchased by calling Baroch at 303-909-7563.
